The Mater was established in 1906 by the Sisters of Mercy. Located within the heart of Brisbane, Mater Health Services is now the city’s leading public and private collocated healthcare provider. With more than 6,000 staff and comprising of three public and four private hospitals, Mater boasts more than 1,000 hospital beds and provides health care services under a not-for-profit framework to half-a-million people each year. With specialised Mothers’, Children’s and Adult hospitals Mater offers a broad range of medical, surgical, outpatient, emergency and community health services across a spectrum of clinical specialties.
Mater’s Medical Research Institute and Mater Education Centre, located on site, provide staff with unique access to the most advanced and innovative techniques for management of illness and disease, as well as information about leading edge techniques in medical and surgical procedures.
