The PAH provides Acute Medical, Surgical, Mental Health, Rehabilitation and Allied Health Services as well as statewide services - Acquired Brain Injury Outreach Service, Queensland Amputee Limb Service, Spinal Outreach Team and a Transitional Rehabilitation Program.
The PAH is nationally recognised for its expertise in spinal injury management and is a major transplantation centre for livers, kidneys, bone, cartilage, and corneas.
Nursing at PAH is supported by the prestigious Magnet designation for excellence in nursing care. Magnet designation is the highest honour bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre in America, and PAH is the only hospital in the southern hemisphere to have attained this designation.
The staff at the Princess Alexandra Hospital are committed to providing educational opportunities and clinical support for the professional development of all categories of staff. All nursing staff complete an orientation program on commencement and are provided with ongoing education opportunities in both ward based and centralised in-service.
Clinical education for a number of Post Graduate Diplomas is offered in collaboration with the Universities. Ongoing education is encouraged and support for study leave is available and can vary from paid to unpaid leave. Various scholarships are also available.
