The Royal Children's Hospital
The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne is a specialist paediatric hospital providing a full range of clinical services. RCH is the major paediatric hospital in Victoria and receives referrals from the whole of Australia and some Asia- Pacific counties. The Royal Children’s Hospital leads the way in research, education and commitment to the care of sick children.
The hospital focuses on tertiary care, health promotion and prevention programs for children and adolescents. The RCH is internationally recognised for work on ethical and legal aspects of newborn care and the use of the latest technology.
At present, the RCH is expanding their intensive care services and requires Registered Nurses to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit
The NICU consists of 22 beds, of which 8-10 are ventilated beds. The unit admits approximately 800 babies per year. The nursing staff on the unit has pioneered the management and prevention of pain in sick babies, which is now used in many other hospitals. The nursing staff has also let the way in surgical wound care. The Unit is focused on professional development promotion, ensuring their staff are the most up to date in their field and providing the best possible care to sick babies.
The PICU –incorporates 15 acute care beds, providing intensive and high dependency nursing care. The unit specialises in cardiac surgery, respiratory support including HFOV and non invasive ventilation, neurological care and renal replacement therapy. The RCH is the state trauma centre specialising in major trauma and management. The unit operates the Paediatric Emergency transport Service (PETS) and is the national centre for ECMO. PICU offers opportunities for nurses to learn and develop in a dynamic, rewarding and supportive environment. We are seeking Division 1, Grade 2 RN’s with the motivation to professionally grow and develop within the multidisciplinary team environment.
