- This is the most commonly used visa for employers who sponsor overseas applicants to work in Australia on a temporary basis. This is also called a ’Work Permit’ for nurses (subclass 457 Visa)
- An Australian hospital sponsors a nurse to work for them. Work permit contracts can be from 1-4 years, the most common is 12 months, and the nurse can always extend this if she/he wishes to stay longer.
- There is no age limit for this Visa.
- Nurses must work on a full time basis 38 hour minimum and earn a minimum salary of $43,440 per annum.
- If the employee decides to leave the hospital by which they are sponsored, their visa will automatically cease. If you wish to change employer you will have to fill out a new application form.
- Nurses can bring their spouse and children on this visa and their husband/wife is able to work under the conditions of the Visa.
- This option is not a good option for nurses coming to (NSW) with families as they will have to pay school fees for their children, the cost can be up to $5500 per child. The best option for nurses who are planning to travel to NSW with their family is to get permanent residency.
