General Handy Tips
Our best piece of advice when moving to Australia is that you need to be organised. Make sure you are fully aware of what your responsibilities are and what you are meant to be doing at what stage of the process (we tell you this!). The process can take up to six months (depending on visa and registration requirements), so carefully plan your move around this time frame. We are here to make the process as stress-free and exciting as possible.
Other tips:
- Always keep in touch with your consultant.
- Notify your consultant if there are any changes to your application, including address, email address or phone number.
- Notify your consultant if you are going on holidays.
- Regularly check your registration application with the nurses board in which you have applied, every 2-3 weeks is fine.
- Registration applications must be posted to the nursing boards, no faxing.
- Ensure you have researched the State in which you are going to, (for example, cost of living) so there are no surprises when you arrive.
- Be aware of the climate in your selected state as they vary all over Australia.
- Arrive at least 7-10 days before your start date and familiarise yourself with your new surroundings.
- Ask your consultant about surrounding areas near the hospital and do some research on accommodation prices. The best website to research is www.realestate.com.au
- Make sure you have saved enough money for flights, first month's rent and bond and temporary accommodation when you first arrive.
- If you are selling a house, leave enough time to get it finalised before you leave.
